Testing

So I've finally after much tweaking, I have a semi-stable matchmove that I can live with.
Was really tricky, but fiddling with the attributes in the 'cameratracker' window I managed to find a level where Nuke was able to track and solve the footage successfully. The keyboard is also textured so i'll be adding that into the scene for placement. I may use vray for render passes, but we'll see.

So many Ideas, so little time

I've started UV mapping the keyboard, tis all going well, Im thinking though..I need more objects to place on the table, don't want it to look too plain :/.. I'm doing the classic, linking the PSD file to maya, so I can just hit 'reload' and see how it's looking.

I also tried to track the footage again in Boujou a program I used back at Uni, I wanted to see if I can get a better solve, but the track seemed to be similar to the result I had in nuke. Ah well. I either need to work with what I have or fiddle in nuke to try and get a more stable solve -____-

Tracking them points!

So I've have completed clean up on my footage, which was a fun process once I got a good hang of things, I found a quick tutorial showing how to remove tracking markers on Vimeo, which helped greatly and allowed me to also explore nuke myself.

The process was simple, track the marker, create a roto shape on top of the marker and link them both together via motion paths, once done, I change the view of the roto shape to the footage and slightly offset it so the marker is no longer in view, but not so much that you can see an obvious circle patch in place.

Because of the simple tutorial, I learnt along the way how to use/understand tracking markers. Each time the marker went off screen, I did the mundane option of creating a new tracker..as in a whole new tracker from the menu :/...I soon realised I could just move it further off screen.. animate a few frames and track it again when it shows up again. Such a simple approach and didn't slow down my laptop!!

Once that was done, I tracked the footage using the camera tracker, I had a few tries with this, due to the fact when I was exporting it to Maya, the gizmo that I downloaded to export the tracked points into Maya did not accept .mov files..so I had to render the original footage in an image sequence to put back into maya to then export the track.

So now the footage is tracked...most of it is accurate, some of it isn't due to the solve in nuke..but there's enough for me to develop and add to my showreel!

Ondisting

So I have actually been busy!..been working on my own personal VFX project to add to my showreel, currently doing a plate cleanup, it's taking a while (tracking markers keep on going off screen, so I have to repeat the process serveral times) but i'm getting used to it and Nuke is pretty awesome.

I have also been helping out on some small animations for a show my sister was stage-managing at Oval theatre called 'OnDisTing', I came onto the project in the last week of preparation for the first show so the turnaround was pretty fast, had mad fun though, and I worked with some fantastic people, Alex Clarke was great to work with and also created some sweet sequences!

This is the one everyone seem to like (i think) The base mesh was modelled by Alex, and I refined it and did the rest (blendshapes, textures, animation, lighting)..Other elements were made for show including smoke made in maya, graffiti writing made in Photoshop and animated in After Effects and transitions/fade in/out sequences also made in After Effects and Premier Pro.

So it's back to working on my VFX project!..The walkcycle is at a stage where I am happy with it, so once this matchmove piece is completed I will render out everything and bang it on my showreel!
